Longevity, concentration, temperature and placement. The four fundamentals behind every fragrance that performs the way you want it to.
When you spray a fragrance you are not simply applying a scent. You are unlocking memory, mood and identity in a single gesture. This is the first chapter in the Veloro fragrance series: the fundamentals that shape every scent you will ever wear.
Longevity, concentration, temperature and placement — the four things that decide how a fragrance performs
More sprays does not mean more staying power
A common misconception is that applying more perfume makes it last longer. Spraying more may make a scent seem stronger at first, but it does not extend how long it lasts. Longevity depends primarily on oil concentration, not the quantity you apply.
An eau de toilette typically carries 5 to 15 per cent aromatic compounds and may last three to five hours. An eau de parfum, at 15 to 20 per cent, can linger six to eight hours or more. The key to a longer-lasting scent is choosing the right formulation, not over-applying.
Hot days: louder scent, shorter life
Ever noticed a perfume that smells stronger in the heat but fades faster? That is chemistry, not imagination. Heat accelerates evaporation, so fragrance molecules disperse more quickly.
- Top notes — the freshest, most volatile part of a fragrance — hit harder and disappear sooner.
- Overall wear is shorter, especially for lighter concentrations such as eau de toilette.
In hot weather, apply to clothes or hair for longer wear, or choose a longer-lasting format such as eau de parfum or a fragrance oil.
Where to spray: pulse points and skin temperature
Fragrance is not only about what you wear, it is about where you wear it. Placement influences both strength and longevity, and the key is understanding pulse points and skin temperature.
Pulse points are areas where blood vessels sit close to the skin, generating more heat. That heat diffuses and amplifies the fragrance.
- Wrists and neck
- Inner elbows
- Behind the ears
- Behind the knees, especially in summer
Spraying on these points enhances projection and lets the fragrance develop fully.
Match intensity to the moment
- Subtle: apply to lower-body pulse points or under clothing.
- Stronger: target upper-body pulse points where heat and airflow carry the scent.
- All-day: combine pulse points with clothing, or layer with a matching lotion or oil.
More sprays do not equal more longevity. Heat makes scent louder but shorter-lived. Where you spray matters as much as what you spray.
Fragrance is a personal journey. Explore, experiment and enjoy the process.
